Police are appealing for information after a fatal road traffic collision. Officers were called to Station Road, Gunby, near Spilsby, at around 8.30am this morning after a report that a grey Seat Leon had left the road and collided with a tree.
The accident happened some time between 4pm on Friday and 8.30am this morning, although it is likely to have taken place a considerable time before the police were alerted.
The driver, believed to be a 28-year-old local man, was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was in the car and no other vehicles were involved.
Anyone who witnessed the accident, or who may have driven past the crashed car after it happened, is asked to call Lincolnshire Police via the non emergency 101 number, quoting incident number 92 of February 16. The road was closed for investigations and re-opened at around 12.45pm.
Update:
Lincolnshire Police have now named the man who died in the collision. He was Lewis Thomas James aged 28 of Habertoft near Alford.
An inquest will be opened in due course which is likely to be adjourned date to be fixed to allow for the completion of the police investigation.
