Bunting will be out and union flags will be flying at a party in the park being organised to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday.
Residents are invited to relive the community spirit of the Diamond Jubilee by gathering in the Ancaster Road Playing Fields for an afternoon of fun on the day of the Queen’s official birthday – Saturday, June 11.
The party is being organised by Bonny Smith and her friends, but the town clerk says it is not a council event. Bonny said: “I was a civil servant and just like Prince William and Prince Harry describe her, to me she has always been ‘The Boss’.
“My mum is 90, too, and my sister is the same age as Princess Anne and my children are the same age as Prince William and Prince Harry.
There will be live music and some games for the children. People can also bring their own picnics. Bonny is looking for donations of prizes for the children’s games and an adult fancy hat competition. She would also welcome a sponsor cover the cost of commemorative medals.
