Halton Road in Spilsby is set to be improved with a “substantial” work programme costing around £380,000 to replace the existing road surface commencing later this month.
The works will happen overnight and are due to begin on Monday, June 24. They are planned to end on Wednesday, July 3, subject to suitable weather. Work will happen on-site from 7.30 pm to 6.00 am, Monday to Friday with no weekend work planned.
During the works the road will be closed with the road reopened after each shift to allow traffic through. Parking restrictions are set to be put in place during the shift hours.
Karen Cassar, assistant director for Highways said: “I’m delighted that we are able to replace the existing surface on Halton Road and improve this stretch for all road users in the area.
“The old road surface needs replacing and, although the work programme is substantial, we will get it completed as quickly as possible. This set of works is going to really increase the lifespan of the road, too.”
“These works will cost around £380,000 to deliver and will be a big uplift for the area.”
The official signed diversion route will run from Spilsby, through Partney, Skegness, Croft Bank, Wainfleet and Halton Holegate. Shorter unofficial alternative routes are available, subject to vehicle restrictions.
Karen Cassar stated “The official diversion route is long, and this is because we have to use like-for-like roads that can accommodate the same weight and size of vehicle as the road that’s being improved. Because of this, we are advising road users using the alternative route – which is the shortest possible option we can plan – to leave plenty of time for their journey.
“Access to the town centre via the diversion will also be maintained at all times and will not affect businesses. We will also ensure that personnel will be on-site to assist anyone that needs help.
“This is a large set of works and I would like to thank anyone affected by them for their understanding and patience as we get on with delivering this improvement.”
This is the latest highways improvement in the town, with the pavements along Boston Road between Church Street and Ancaster Avenue currently undergoing extensive reconstruction due to their degraded condition.
