Outdoor Gym No-Go For Town

The proposed Outdoor Gym on the Ancaster Avenue Playing Fields will now not be going ahead, it was confirmed at the well-attended Spilsby Town Council's meeting last night (Thursday 25 February).

The location gym, which had successfully applied for 50% grant funding from East Lindsey District Council, was questioned by the Council and members of the public after concerns were raised about each of the potential locations as well as the limited amount of use the public would also get from the equipment.

At the meeting the Council also agreed that it will be replacing the monkey bars that were in the Play Area, but was looking into whether to replace them like for like, or whether a different piece of play equipment could be installed in its' place.  This will be taken forwards to the next Council meeting in March when information on other play equipment should be available from providers.  The final stages of repairs for the existing equipment will also now take place once the contractor is available to do so.

A Councillor task group is also being set up to look at future options for further improving the Play Area.

The Council is also looking into the potential provision of Community Speed Watch signs to be placed in the town, reminding motorists of the speed limits, due to the issues the town has with speeding.  The issue of active speed signs that display the speed along with a smiley or frowning face were also discussed and will be on the agenda for future meetings.

There are still vacancies on the Town Council so anyone who wishes to put themselves forward for co-option as a Councillor onto the Town Council needs to ensure they contact the Town Clerk, Bonny Smith, on 01790 753189 or by emailing spilsbytowncouncil@btconnect.com as soon as possible.

The next Spilsby Town Council meeting will be taking place on Thursday 24 March 2016 at 7pm in the Council Chamber, Franklin Hall, Halton Road in Spilsby.
