Tough Savings Required For District Council
East Lindsey District Council has stated that they will "no longer be able to do all it once could" after the Government's Autumn Statement and Spending Review.
There is no doubt that East Lindsey District Council will no longer be able to do all it once could and will need to provide services in a very different way in the future.Councillor Nick Guyatt, East Lindsey District Council
Portfolio Holder for Finance and Property at the Council, Councillor Nick Guyatt, said: "Recent years have been tough financially for all Councils and following today's announcement times will become tougher still, with an expected cut in Government funding to local Councils of at least 30% over the next four years.
"In October the Council announced it would need to deliver a further £6,000,000 in savings over the next four years to balance its books. This is in addition to the £4,500,000 the Council has already saved since 2010/11.
"Although we continue to await the detailed information about the impact of today's announcement on this Council's finances, there is no doubt that East Lindsey District Council will no longer be able to do all it once could and will need to provide services in a very different way in the future."
In recent years the Council has spun off a number of services into Compass Point Business Services - a joint venture with South Holland District Council - in order to protect services and the leisure and culture arms of the Council were handed to Magna Vitae at the start of 2015 in order to generate extra savings without having to cut services. However, the predicted cuts are more likely to have a greater effect on the services local residents receive than the previous cuts have.
