A Lincolnshire woman who lied about the income of her two Chinese restaurants to steal more than more than £85,000 in tax has been jailed. Jilian Moore, 67, of Resolute Close, Spilsby, pocketed takings from the Beijing Dragon on Church Street, Spilsby, and its namesake on Abbey Road, Grimsby, meaning she avoided paying the correct amount of VAT. Police are investigating after a “significant and sustained cyber-attack” on the TalkTalk website, the UK company has confirmed. The phone and broadband provider, which has over 4 million customers in the UK, said credit card and bank details could have been accessed. The Metropolitan Police Cyber Crime Unit is investigating the attack, which happened on Wednesday. It is the second time the company has been targeted by hackers this year. A man has been arrested in connection with a burglary at Skegness Town Hall last August. The 27-year-old was arrested by Thames Valley Police and has been bailed until January to allow the investigation to continue. A substantial amount of cash was stolen from an area of the building where the car parking takings were kept during the break-in, which took place on Bank Holiday Monday.
Local residents are being urged to remain aware of a council tax scam that is making its’ way around the country. Scammers have been mainly targeting the over 60’s by phoning victims telling them that they have been placed in the wrong council tax bracket for a number of years and that they are entitled to a rebate.
