Spilsby has marked the Queen’s 90th birthday by joining hundreds of other towns across the country in lighting a beacon. The beacon, situated at the top of the town’s fire station, was lit in celebration at 8:30pm along with fireworks to mark the occasion. The event, held on one of the warmest and clearest evenings of the year so far, was well attended.

The East Midlands Ambulance Service is reminding people to stay safe this Bonfire Night. Last year the ambulance service received nine calls on November 5. In total eight related to injuries caused by fireworks and one concerned someone falling into a bonfire. Fireworks night in Spilsby is shaping up to be a ‘great family event’ with spectacular displays, delicious food and a hotly contested Guy competition. Spilsby’s Rotary Club is hosting its annual celebration on Saturday, November 3, off Post Office Lane from 6.30pm. Lincolnshire Trading Standards have issued a warning that banned fireworks may be on sale in the county in the run up to Bonfire Night. Trading Standards officers are carrying out routine checks on premises selling fireworks, especially temporary retailers, and 8,400 bangers have been removed by officers from a shop in Skegness .
