Some street lighting in Lincolnshire are set to be dimmed after a successful trial in Halton Holegate and Mablethorpe.
The county council has approved a number of changes to save energy as well as reducing its’ carbon footprint and cut the level of its’ fuel bills. Pilot schemes around the county have shown that there is no impact on road safety or crime levels, officials report. Street lights have been dimmed or switched off in Halton Holgate and Mablethorpe for the past two years as part of a trial.
The council will now consult with the community for the next month.
The scheme will also see energy efficienct bulbs being used as replacements on street lighting where maintenance is already required, and allows for lights to be turned off in low traffic areas.
A council spokesperson stated that lights would only be dimmed in appropriate areas between 9pm and 6am.
