Local food businesses will soon be putting their hygiene “Scores on the Doors”, so you can make a better decision of where is safe to eat.
East Lindsey District Council is joining the Food Standards Agency national food hygiene scheme which offers a different way of rating food establishments based on their hygiene and food management practices. You will be able to look up the scores of local takeaways, restaurants and other food premises on the council’s website.
The change will mean wherever people are in the country, they will be able to make meaningful comparisons between food premises before choosing where to buy from. The current three star system is only relevant to the District.
From August the District Council will begin re-scoring all food businesses in line with the Food Standard Agency’s national five star scheme.
Scores will be posted on the Council’s website and businesses will be given a window sticker they can display for customers.
The introduction of such a scheme can only be a good thing as it will encourage all local food premises to ensure that they are at the highest possible standard, and will re-assure the public that local businesses continue to be safe to buy your food from.
