Over £85,000 given to local community groups

Community projects, including a number from the Spilsby area, will receive funding totalling £87,598 from East Lindsey District Council.

The grants have been made through Round Two of the Council’s Community Grant Scheme and cover a range of important projects that provide direct benefit to local people.

The revised Community Grant Scheme has now been running for three years and during this time has provided in excess of £380,000 worth of grants to 106 projects.

Portfolio Holder for Communities at the Council, Councillor Sandra Harrison, said: “I am pleased we’ve been able to support so many local projects that provide benefit to communities across East Lindsey. The Community Grants Scheme can support a wide variety of initiatives and the diverse range of organisations that received grants on this occasion illustrates this perfectly.”

Two ‘Small Grants’ were awarded during Round 2, they were as follows:

£198 to the Louthesk Deanery to support the printing of publicity material for their ‘Be a Friend’ project
£250 to the East Kirkby based ‘Tree House Steiner Group’ to purchase toys for the newly formed children’s play group

Fifteen larger ‘Community Grants’ were awarded, they were as follows:

£8,000 to Eastville, Midville and New Leake Playing Field Committee to support the installation of children’s play equipment
£2,474 to The Meridale Organisation, Sutton on Sea; to refurbish the gentlemen’s toilets
£2,687 to New York Lecture Hall to enable the kitchen to be refurbished and a new fire door installed
£16,000 over two years to Alford Community Church to help fund a ‘Community Worker as part of the ACCess project
£8,000 to St Mary’s Church in Marshchapel to install toilets and kitchenette facilities to enhance and broaden community use of the building
£3,493 to Louth Town Partnership to purchase event equipment including stage decks to support the Partnerships events. The equipment will also be made available to other community groups
£12,000 to Furnichurch over two years to help establish and sustain the Furnichurch operation in the Skegness area which supports people in need
£2,579 to Donington on Bain Parish Council to enable a ‘Community Shelter’ to be installed in the village
£8,000 to Tetney Playing Field and Village Hall Association to part fund the installation of solar panels on the village hall roof
£4,067 to a gymnastics club in Horncastle to purchase new safety mats and additional equipment
£3,920 to Dove Park Bowls Club in Wragby to purchase new grounds maintenance equipment
£2,344 to Scamblesby with Cawkwell Parish Council to help fund the demolition and replacement of the derelict bus shelter in Scamblesby
£8,000 to St Leonard’s Church in South Cockerington to reinstall their toilets and install a kitchenette, broadening the use of the building for wider community use
£586 to an indoor carpet bowls club in Woodhall Spa to purchase a carpet handling trolley
£5,000 to Horncastle Town Council to improve the festive lighting displays in the town.
