Primary School pupils had the opportunity to show off their dancing skills at a specially organised event at a Spilsby College last week.
King Edward VI Humanities College hosted their very own Festival of Dance for pupils from nearby Primary Schools, with the College’s Head of PE, Mike Irving, and Head of Expressive Arts, Kate Walker leading the Festival.
150 Primary School pupils from Halton Holegate, Great Steeping, Toynton, Burgh Le Marsh, Stickney, Spilsby and Partney all took part in the day-long event. The Festival was based around the theme of six Olympic sports, and allowed pupils to explore movements linked to these sports and also learn elements of exercises that would be used in training regimes.
Head of PE Mike Irving said, “It was utterly fantastic to see such enthusiasm from both primary pupils and the dance leaders themselves. What these children achieved in just three hours was incredible.
“We were delighted that so many were able to join us at King Edward VI and have such an enjoyable day. We look forward to building upon this theme as the Olympic Games draw ever nearer.”
The day ended with performances by all of the pupils on the stage in the College’s main hall. It is hoped that similar events will take place at the College in the run up to the Olympic Games.
