Proposals to create up to 400 new homes in Spilsby over the next 15 years will put a huge strain on the town’s amenities, several councillors fear.
Coun Julia Pears felt the vision for future development outlined by East Lindsey District Council was ‘very concerning’ for Spilsby.
Speaking at the latest Spilsby Town Council meeting Coun Pears said: “That’s a huge amount of housing – and ELDC has already put that through as appropriate land to develop.
“We need to seriously look at the facilities in our town – we were already at the maximum for car parking.”
Coun Trevor Beaumont also feared the housing strategy’s opposition to coastal housing due to flood concerns could put excessive pressures on the inland towns.
He felt the strategy should acknowledge the possibility of developing on a flood plain and also hoped to see housing schemes included for smaller villages, rather than just inland towns.
A spokesperson for ELDC explained that several of the potential housing sites in Spilsby had been discounted leaving only 285.
They also explained that those sites remaining would merely be used if required.
The plan does not allocate housing land, or indicate how much housing land is needed, nor does it prejudge any future planning application that may be submitted.
