A 19-year-old man from East Keal Fen, near Spilsby, has been sentenced to three years four months in a young offenders’ institution for causing the death of his friend in a road traffic collision.
Marc Lutman, a university student, was two-and-a-half times over the alcohol limit when he lost control of his father’s Vauxhall Corsa near Stickney on August 30, last year.
Passenger, Ian Deer, 19, from Revesby, was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the car. He died from his injuries, despite Lutman’s efforts to give him first aid.
Lutman pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving while over the drink-drive limit. He also had no insurance or permission to drive the vehicle.
Sentencing Lutman at Lincoln Crown Court on Monday (July 1) Judge Heath said, “This is a case of youthful folly fuelled by alcohol with tragic consequences.”
In addition to the custodial sentence, Lutman was banned from driving for five years and ordered to take an extended driving test.
