Ever considered becoming a Councillor? Now’s your chance!

With District Council elections taking place on May 5, 2011, East Lindsey District Council has organised an open meeting for people to find out more about the role of being a Councillor.

The meeting is being held at 2pm on Friday, March 18, 2011 at Tedder Hall, Manby Park, Louth LN11 8UP, in the Council Chambers.

As well as a chance to find out more about the role of a Councillor the election process will also be explained in detail.

If you are over 18 years of age and have a connection with the area, such as being on the electoral register or having lived here for at least a year, then you are eligible to become a councillor.

All sorts of people can become a Councillor, all that is needed is a willingness to serve the community as well as helping to run the Council. No specific skills or qualifications are required.

Training on roles and responsibilities is offered to all new District Councillors, together with continuous support provided by Council officers to give the background knowledge and understanding needed to help councillors with their duties.

District Councillors are entitled to receive a basic allowance for being a District Councillor, and can also receive additional allowances if they take on extra responsibilities, such as being a Committee Chairman. Expenses such as mileage are also paid for attending meetings.
