Police are working with local partnership agencies to help reduce the fear of crime on a local estate in Spilsby.
New Linx Housing Trust and Lincolnshire Rural Housing Association are working with officers from the local Neighbourhood Policing Team to address ongoing concerns about anti-social behaviour in Old Market Avenue, Dennett Close and St James Walk in Spilsby.
A new action group has been formed involving Police, the housing associations, Spilsby Town Council, ELDC and the local supermarket manager from Sainsburys.
The group will be meeting initially once a month and will be encouraging local residents to speak up and take control of their community again. The group’s objectives will be to tackle and prevent anti-social behaviour and to build community spirit and values.
PC Matt Dickinson, the Community beat Manager for the area, said, “I am looking forward to tackling the issues raised by local residents. I believe this is an excellent opportunity to make a difference to the quality of the lives of people living in this area and the multi-partnership approach means all the appropriate people will be on hand to address the issues raised. We have all made a long term commitment to local residents and all we need in return is for them to engage with us and tell us what those issues are.
John Howes, Chief Executive of Lincolnshire Rural Housing based in Spilsby said “We believe that everyone should be able to live in peace and quiet enjoyment in their homes. The majority of people are good – it’s the few that cause the problems. From our first meeting we feel confident that working together with residents we can make the Old Market Avenue Estate a safer and an enjoyable place to live: a united community where residents know and can rely upon neighbours; where they do not feel threatened by aggressive behaviour; where people take responsibility for their children, family and visitors; where they are willing and able to intervene to challenge bad behaviour – confident that they will be supported by their neighbours, police, landlords, District and Town Councils”.
