Dredging work continues to protect homes on Lincolnshire coast

Thousands of homes along the Lincolnshire coast are better protected from flooding through a £6.2million beach scheme. The Environment Agency is increasing the levels of sand along the Lincolnshire coast by dredging. This is to reduce the risk of waves reaching the main defences and going over the sea walls. Lincolnshire Police and the Environment Agency are warning members of the public that a bogus ‘officials’ may be at work in Lincolnshire. The Environment Agency have reported that an individual has been posing as a ‘bailiff’ where the man concerned allegedly checks fishing licenses, and asks for on-the-spot fines when anglers do not produce their licence. An official drought status has been confirmed today for parts of Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire and Lincolnshire by Defra and the Environment Agency. The move is as a result of the driest spring since records began in 1910, leading to rivers with lower than normal water levels and very dry soil. Lincolnshire, the Cambridgeshire fens, and Northamptonshire are currently of most concern but river levels are also generally falling in the rest of the East of England. […]
