Tributes have been flooding in for a 28-year-old local man who was killed in a road crash at Gunby over the weekend.
The man has not been formally identified by police but has been named locally as Lewis James.
He was killed sometime in the early hours of Saturday when his car left the road on the dual carriageway at Station Road in Gunby.
Officers were called to the site at around 8.30am on Saturday after a report that a grey Seat Leon had left the road and collided with a tree.
“The driver was pronounced dead at the scene,” said a police spokesperson.
“No one else was in the car and no other vehicles were involved.”
Lewis’ family has spoken of a ‘much loved’ man who will be missed by all.
“He was loved and adored by everybody and everybody’s life he touched,” said the family in a statement to the Standard.
“We’ve never found anyone who has a bad word to say about him.
“He was always the life and soul of the party and was always larking around and singing and dancing.”
Lewis was a former soldier who had served two tours of Iraq. In his civilian life he had only recently rejoined ICB Design and Engineering Ltd where he worked as a welder fabricator. Prior to moving to ICB for the second time he had also been employed by Sid Dennis for a number of years.
News of the tragedy has rocked the local community, where Lewis was a popular and much-loved character, and many have echoed the family’s tribute by describing him as being the life and soul of the party.
Tributes have included heartfelt messages such as “Rest in Peace Lewis, we will never forget you.
Others said: “I’m just going to miss you so so much Lew. Why does it happen to the good ones? You’re gone but will never ever be forgotten. You’ll be in our hearts and memories forever.”
The Welcome Inn in Skegness, where Lewis would socialise with friends, has also set up a tribute to him.
Tribute pages set up on social media sites have also been inundated with messages of condolence, such as the open group ‘Always in our hearts Lewis James <3 ‘top lad’ xxx’ on Facebook.
Anyone who witnessed the accident, or who may have driven past the crashed car after it happened, should call the police on 101, quoting ‘incident number 92 of February 16’.
The road was closed for investigations and re-opened at around 12.45pm.
