Western Power Distribution (WPD), the electricity distributor for Lincolnshire, has scooped a top environmental award for its new depot in Spilsby.
The building, which provides stores and office space for around 25 staff, has an Energy Performance Rating of -2, making it more efficient than a fully carbon neutral building.
From the solar panels on the roof to the rain water harvesting for the wash rooms, every element has been carefully thought through to ensure that the depot is as environmentally friendly as possible.
The use of renewable energy and energy efficient technologies in the design and operation of the building has attracted a top score and it has been ranked as outstanding by BREEAM, which is the world’s leading environmental assessment process and also provides the UK standard for excellence in building design, procurement and construction.
The depot has also been assessed by the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS), which ranked it in the top 5% of construction sites assessed in the UK.
WPD’s Estates Manager David Withers said: “We are delighted that the depot has achieved an outstanding rating which recognises our drive for sustainability and for providing colleagues with a first class working environment.”
