Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue are advising all caravan and motorhome owners to ensure they take fire safety safely after recent caravan fires last weekend.
Steve Screaton, deputy community safety manager at Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue, said “In Lincolnshire, we have a large number of caravans and mobile homes, which are used for holidays, weekend breaks or for permanent residences.
“With this in mind, and the fact that a fire in a caravan or mobile home is nine times more likely to lead to death or injury than in a house, it is important that people are aware of the precautions they can take to reduce the risk of fire.”
Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue’s top fire safety tips are:
Park vans at least 6 metres apart.
Never use BBQ’s inside a caravan or awning.
Ensure you have a working smoke alarm fitted.
Never leave cooking appliances unattended.
Don’t leave children alone in caravans.
Don’t smoke in bed
Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue are encouraging all caravanners and campers to think P-A-T:
P: Phone: Know where the nearest phone point is.
A: Arrangements: Know what the fire safety arrangements are on the campsite.
T: Torch: Have a torch by the door.
If your caravan does catch fire, make sure you:
Get out as quickly and safely as possible.
Stay well back from the caravan and do not make any attempt to go back inside
Call 999 as soon as possible giving your exact location and map reference or landmark where possible.
