Initial Details Of Spilsby Jubilee Celebrations Announced

Spilsby Jubilee Committee say plans are ‘well under way’ for a spectacular weekend of fun in Spilsby to celebrate the Queens Diamond Jubilee.

The event will start at 10am on Saturday 2nd June with an open air service by Father Peter Coates followed by the events of the day including entertainment for all the family which includes a street party for the children, a parade of vintage vehicles and decorated floats bearing a memory of the last 60 years of the Queens reign and a foot parade featuring the local groups within the area.

Councillor Michael Lenton, Mayor of Spilsby said, “This is a special day in our history.  Children under 11 can enjoy a street party, fun rides and a treasure hunt and later the adults can enjoy a history trail and tea party”.

The day will include entertainment organised and delivered by Spilsby Theatre, live acts including local artists and performers and a unique performance by the much loved Taiko Drummers.  Councillor Lenton said one of the highlights of the day will be the ‘crowning of the Prince & Princess on the main stage, something that will hopefully bring home to the children the meaning of the days celebrations’.

Children 11 and under who attend school in Spilsby, or live within the Spilsby Parish will also receive a souvenir commemorative mug to remember this special occasion. Bunting, flags, food, drink, entertainment, craft stalls, competitions and fun fair rides will make the day memorable and enjoyable for young and old alike.

Many towns and cities up and down the country will be celebrating 60 years since The Queen’s Accession to the Throne on the extended Bank Holiday weekend of the 2nd June, and press officer & site manager Councillor Tony Bailey said “it was only right that the Jubilee Committee organise a day to remember, a lot of hard work has been going on behind the scenes for the last 6 months but we now have a programme of events so posters will be popping up very soon.”

Popular local band, Dr. Frankenfish & the Noise Monsters will close the show with a 5pm performance featuring some great hits from the past.

But the fun doesn’t stop on Saturday…  The Jubilee Committee will also be organising a Bank Holiday Monday Fun Day situated on Spilsby Playing Fields to include numerous sporting activities for all ages. Medals will be presented to those taking part in events organised by local sporting volunteers. The day will also consist of food and drink or you can take your own picnic.

The day will round off with a family disco to close what is expected to be a fun packed and fitting celebration of the Queens Diamond Jubilee.
