Hundreds of bikers will be motoring their way to Spilsby today as the town gears up for its annual celebration of two-wheeled fun.
The sixth annual Spilsby Bike Night and is expected to welcome around a thousand different motorcycles from across Lincolnshire and beyond.
Event organiser Peter McDowell of AE Wildman’s is expecting the town to be heaving with all manner of motorised marvels including vintage models, modern superbikes and custom classics.
“If it’s a nice sunny evening Bike Night is the time when Spilsby really comes to life,” he said.
“Each year it has grown and grown and everyone in Spilsby including the businesses, the police and the council all get involved and make it a really special occasion.”
This year’s event will also be welcoming a very special guest of the motorcycling world as local trial bike supremo Emma Bristow is set to make an appearance.
There will also be musical entertainment from popular Spilsby band Dr Frankenfish and many of the town’s shops will be staying open to serve food and drink to the visitors.
Funds raised on the night will once again go toward the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance, which so far has benefited by around £3,000 from the annual events.
“Most bikers should be aware of the air ambulance and how much it costs to keep it running because we all might need it one day,” said Peter.
Having grown from a small gathering of motorcycle enthusiasts a few years back, the event is now one of the town’s most popular annual fixtures for residents and visitors alike.
“I’ve even had grannies come and ask me when this years’ event is on,” said Peter.
The bikes are expected to start rolling into town from around 4.30pm and will enjoy the rule of Spilsby town centre for the early evening until the event begins to wind down at around 7.30pm.
Cars visiting the event have been advised to park at the Post Office Lane Car Park.
