Dredging work continues to protect homes on Lincolnshire coast

Thousands of homes along the Lincolnshire coast are better protected from flooding through a £6.2million beach scheme. The Environment Agency is increasing the levels of sand along the Lincolnshire coast by dredging. This is to reduce the risk of waves reaching the main defences and going over the sea walls. Teachers strike to affect schools in Skegness, Spilsby and Alford

The majority of local schools are expected to remain open during tomorrow’s nationwide teachers’ strike, though parents have been warned to be prepared for last minute closures. The only schools in the Standard’s region to have announced closures as of Monday morning were Skegness Grammar School and Spilsby’s Lady Jane Franklin School.
